Adventure Weekend

August 5th, 2008 7 Comments

Recently Daniel and I decided to set aside the first Saturday of each month to go on an outing with our family and dubbed it “Adventure Weekend” to give our children something to look forward to each month. To start things off right, we headed out of the city for the first time in months to stay the weekend at Rizal Recreation Center and invited our friend Liz to join us.

We were not disappointed. The rates were low, the food was good (especially the donuts and cinnamon rolls), all three children got to sleep on top bunks of our six bunk cabin, and we had hot showers and lots of room to run and play. Daniel, Liz and I even managed to get in a couple of games of Cities and Knights and read a few chapters of our books after the kids were peacefully sleeping, tuckered out from their busy days. :)

Probably the highlight of the weekend was the 70 foot water slide ending in an icy cold swimming pool. The cold water did not seem to slow the boys down too much as they ran up those steps over and over again to crash through the inner tubes waiting for them at the end of the slide.

Another favorite spot for Isaiah was the chess pavilion. He has recently learned how to play and would find his way to the oversized game board whenever there was a free moment and usually found someone willing to join him.

Ian and Elanor really loved the tree house and would ask us to follow them there whenever we weren’t at the swimming pool. Here great battles ensued against wild pigs, goblins and the barbarian horde. Elanor even managed to tame a pet Panda and Tiger with her “Hunter” skills.

After recently watching the amazing feats of Cirque du Soleil, the kids were also excited to test their skills on the Challenge Course and we all did our best to balance our way from one end of the “tight rope wire” to the next.

We had a fun weekend and the kids can’t wait to go again. They said it may even be better that going to the beach We will keep you updated on our further Pape Family Adventures, but we may have a hard time living up to this one.
