good game!

Isaiah has officially entered the sporting world! Faith Academy has an intramural soccer club for the elementary age kids which started yesterday and they drafted Isaiah to be a part of the Leopards! When we got the announcement about a soccer program, I asked Isaiah if he wanted to play. When he heard he would get his own jersey and that his friends would also be playing, he was all in!

Isaiah’s division includes kids from K-2 so each team has a good number of fresh eager kickergarteners ready to prove they have what it takes. I am really relieved the whole thing is very laid back and it’s really focused on helping the kids learn the game of soccer and to have fun. The atmosphere yesterday was a lot of fun and all about the kids.

After a short 15 minute practice with his team, Isaiah’s first game as a Leopard was underway. Within about 1 minute, Isaiah and the two other forwards on his team were pressing the other team’s goal. A defensive player tried to clear the ball and sent a stinging ball right into Isaiah’s gut. He was pretty upset and ready to toss in his jersey, but while he was still cooling off, his team scored. Isaiah is really a pretty competitive kid, I guess that partly comes from being the oldest, but hearing his team was beating the other team was enough to get him back in the saddle.

All in all, he had a great time. When the ball was not in his part of the field, he tended to find the nearest player for a little chat. A couple times I looked out to see Isaiah and Amy Fish, his affectionate table partner in kindergarten, in full embrace right in the middle of the game. “Isaiah, get your head in the game!” I think we’re in trouble.

Ah, yes the joy of kids soccer. Our kids played this last Spring with Upwards Soccer in Nampa but there was much more standing and watching than playing. Oh well!

    Go Leopards!

I spent most of my soccer days either 1) picking those hard-to-find 4-leaf clovers, or 2) chatting with my best friend who was on the other team, only to find that they started kicking the ball without us! It’s really a wonder I never went pro. God had other plans I guess… If you’d like me to train Isaiah I’d be happy to meet with him.
