Where are the red and yellow leaves?

Pumpkins we found at Shopper's Day

This is probably the one time of the year that I REALLY miss being in the States. October has always been my favorite month. I love the crisp chill in the air. I love the leaves changing color and the way they look when the bright morning sun shines through them when they are still on the tree. I love when they fall and blanket your yard in golden crunchiness and I am loathe to rake them up. I love drinking hot apple cider. I love going to the pumpkin patch and the corn maze. I love making jack-o-lanterns and watching them flicker in the darkness. I even love going camping in October and seeing all the aspens bright with quaking yellow as you drive up the mountain and waking up with snow on the ground. And at the end of the month, I love Halloween, gasp! I have always loved dressing up and this is the one time a year when you are given the creative license to come up with the best costume your imagination can think up and then celebrate in the most religiously correct way you can. :-D The good ‘ol Harvest Party with chili cook offs and carnival games and loads of candy and prizes for the best costumes.

Fun at the Berry Ranch

Needless to say, most of this does not happen in the Philippines. Something about living so near the equator I do believe. Luckily we did find pumpkins this year, however. Last Saturday Faith Academy held it’s annual Shopper’s Day and there they were, PUMPKINS! Of course we could not go home without some. The children have been so excited and Isaiah wanted to carve it that day. I talked him into painting it for now and then carving it later. We got three tiny ones and one small one and Ian and Ela have been carrying them all around the house. Ian calls them “pumpkin patch” rather that just pumpkins, so today I asked him if he wanted to see photos of our trip to the pumpkin patch three years ago. Our last October in the States. The photos were so cute, I decided I had to post them. We are also having a party at the end of this month and I am in charge of it…hahaha, but I am at a loss as to what to call it. Can’t really call it a Harvest Party or Fall Festival here in the PI. Any suggestions?

Hi Melissa, Daniel, Isaiah, Ian, and Elanor,
Your description of October was so real, you made me want to get out there and do it all. I know you miss it. We did see some snow and yellow aspens when we went to Bear Lake a week ago, and the air was certainly crisp. Our leaves are beginning to change around here now. It got down to 30 degrees last night with a light frost. I loved the pictures. Maybe you could call your party October Days. We love you and miss you and wish we could share our Oct. with you, but this summer was great. Love, Mom

Call it an Orange Party and do everything in orange…orange jello, pumpkin bowl (roll a pumpkin to knock down pins) of course pumpkin pie. Everyone should dress in something orange, could be a tiger, be creative!
