Kamatis [A Tomato Story]

Our team at WM Communications Asia Pacific recently joined as one of the 82 participants in the 168 Film Festival. We produced a short film entitled “Kamatis [A Tomato Story]” and we were selected as one of the top 20 films in the competition! We also received three nominations for awards; Best Screenplay, Best Scriptural Integration, and Best International Film. The 168 Film Festival screenings and awards ceremony took place in Glendale, California on April 11-12, 2008. We did not receive any awards in our nominated categories, however, the feedback on our film was astounding. It was not a surprise that our team here could pull together and create such a great film, but to have it confirmed by the Hollywood community was a great ‘pat on the back‘ for all of us.
The theme for the 168 Film Festival this year was, “Set The Captives Free.” Each team was supplied a scripture verse based on the theme and this was to become the basis for our film. We were assigned Galations 2:4 which says; “This matter arose because some false brothers had infiltrated our ranks to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus and to make us slaves.” We tell the story of Galations 2:4 through the symbolism of a young boy caught in the struggle to choose between the advice of his recently deceased father and that of a nosy neighbor in continuing his father’s work of tending the family garden. The story focuses on the boys efforts to raise a batch of tomatoes which is translated as ‘kamatis’ in Tagalog, the language in which the film is produced.
Check it out! I hope you enjoy it.

We loved everything about the story…especially because we have been there and Tagalog is familiar. The graphics and art, message and presentation are impressive and moving as well.
We love what you are doing!
